If I do not read my daily portion at dawn, my heart feels heavy by mid-morning. The Quran is not just a book that mentions stories which are centuries old: it is a book that mentions the present. “We have certainly sent down to you a Book in which is your mention. Will you then not reason?” (Quran 21:10) Whosoever reads the Quran and reflects on it will find himself and his situation mentioned therein. This is only one of its many miracles.

Hadeeth (Prophetic Narrations)
|
{And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, leave it. And fear Allah: truly Allah is severe in punishment.} [Qur'aan [59]:7] In Islam, the Arabic word Sunnah has come to denote the way Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu a'lyhi wa sallam) , the Messenger of Allah, lived his life. The Sunnah is the second source of Islamic jurisprudence, the first being the Qur'an. Both sources are indispensable; one cannot practice Islam without consulting both of them. The Arabic word hadeeth (pl. ahaadeeth) is very similar to Sunnah, but not identical. A hadeeth is a narration about the life of the Prophet (sallallahu a'lyhi wa sallam) or what he approved - as opposed to his life itself, which is the Sunnah as already mentioned. |
